Cargo trade data is useful for:

Understanding Trade Flows and Patterns: Cargo trade data reveals the types of goods being traded, their origins and destinations, and the volumes involved. This information helps identify major trade partners, emerging markets, and trends in global trade.

Formulating Economic and Trade Policies: Governments and businesses can use cargo trade data to make informed decisions about trade agreements, tariffs, and investment strategies.

Improving Logistics and Supply Chain Management: Cargo trade data allows for better planning and optimization of transportation routes, shipping schedules, and inventory levels. This leads to greater efficiency and cost savings in supply chains.

Assessing the Environmental Impact of Trade: Cargo trade data can be used to evaluate the carbon footprint of global trade and identify ways to reduce its environmental impact.

Tradeviews provide country cargo trade data specific for bulk cargo (bulkers and tankers). The data originates from customs records. We clean the data and enrich it, so it’s ready for global analysis. Our unique extra benefits include:

  • All the main bulker and tanker cargoes covered (100+)
  • Separating cargo traveling in containers
  • Using coastline groups for countries spanning different regions.
  • Adding distances in so that cargo tonne miles can be calculated
  • Cargo ‘voyage days’ added so the impact on shipping fleet can be assessed.
  • Cargo volumes uploaded on customs release date.
  • Every cargo bi-lateral trade is forecast by industry expert.
  • Current year growth is estimated.

Tradeviews is the only consolidated commodity tradeflow product built from customs data. This is better for analysing seasonality and trends compared to an AIS (satellite) solutions. Customs data is consistent and reliable and has two records, the departure and arrival country, making it great for crosschecking.

AIS solutions are good for identifying immediate activity estimates but are less reliable for identifying the cargo carried and the correct volume. Therefore it shouldn’t be used for trend and seasonality analysis.  Only customs records, which Tradeviews uses,  will identify global trade volumes correctly.
