We’ve upgraded the Trade Analytics Platform to help you with your analytical journey. We’ve updated the ‘Summary’, ‘cargo lookup’, and ‘country lookup’ screens and the remaining pages will be following in the next few weeks. Here is a summary of the changes:

Time period

Annual and monthly totals expanded to quarterly and percentage increases added. We we now have:

  • Annual Total
  • YOY % (Year on Year percent)
  • Months total
  • MOM% (Month on Month Percent)
  • MOY% (Months on Year Percent) … or the same month the previous year.
  • Quarterly Total
  • QoQ% (Quarter on Quarter %)
  • QoY% (Quarter on Year Percent)… or the same quarter in the previous year.

Metrics

We’ve also increased the number of Metrics we now include:

  • Tonnes
  • Tonne Mile
  • Avg Miles – Average nautical miles
  • Dry bulk vessel Utilisation – How many vessels are required to service this trade. This includes the complete round voyage of vessel including loading and unloading. The average size of the vessel is 77k dwt. In other word how many 77k dwt vessels to service this trade.
  • Capesize vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 180k dwt vessel
  • Panamax vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 77k dwt vessel
  • Supramax vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 53k dwt vessel
  • Handysize vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 30k dwt vessel
  • Tanker vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 77k dwt vessel
  • VLCC vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 308k dwt vessel
  • Suex vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 155k dwt vessel
  • Aframax vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 105k dwt vessel
  • Panamax vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 73.5k dwt vessel
  • Handysize vessel utilisation – Same as above but for a 38k dwt vessel
  • Market Share Tonnes – This shows the global market share of the trade of trade by volume
  • Market Share Tonne miles – This shows the global market share of the trade of trade by volume and distance

Geographical groupings

We’ve also added one more element to the geographical grouping, which we called Maritime Zones. We basically split the world into in to 20 regions, which can make it easier to spot cargo trade and trends. The zones added are:

We’ve updated the download CSV button to closer reflect what you see on screen. Estimate numbers are shown in green plus on the first row is a snapshot of your selection criteria. Hopefully its much easier to quickly build the analysis you require.

Cargo Groups

In the ‘country lookup’ you can now you can now at’ Commodity’, ‘sub group’, or ‘group’ depending on the level of detail you require. This can make looking at the impact of steel for example, a lot easier.

We added many other small features that you discover along the way that will help your data analytics experience. Any feedback you may have is welcome.
